Officials Tour Second Chance
officials tour Second Chance – ABQ officials tour former rehab facility For the first time, Albuquerque city officials got an inside look at a controversial drug rehab facility that was recently shut down. The Second Chance Rehab Center was based at the old city jail on the Mesa until the city ordered them to move out in December because of violations of a lease agreement. On Monday, city crews did a damage inspection on the place. No major damage was found, but city officials say some equipment in the kitchen is missing. They also say Second Chance still has a big bill to pay. “I can say for the record, we did an audit for the amount of monies owed to the city and we’ve been able to identify at least 000 in utilities that may be owed, as far as the rent, we’re still compiling that information,” said Chief Public Safety Officer Pete Dinelli. Joy Westrum, director of second chance, says when her workers moved out, they did not take any city property with them. Dinelli says the facility may be torn down or it might be used as a homeless shelter.
