Librium for Alcohol Addiction?

Question by wizarddundana: librium for alcohol addiction?
A friend of mine who has had a serious alcohol addiction is trying to detox again. He has been in detox clinics before but had some bad experiences so is trying to detox at home. He is on 10mg of librium, 3 times a day, but he says that they do Absolutely nothing for him. He has always had a very high tolerance to chemicals (on every visit to the dentist he has had to have extra anesthetic after dental work has started). Is 10mg enough or should he ask for a higher dose due to his increased tolerance of chemicals? He’s really struggling at the mo.
Any advice appreciated guys, thanks.

he shouldn’t increase that type of medication without doctors orders. because he has chemical dependency issues it is imperative that he not abuse the medication that is meant to help him become independent of drugs and alcohol.
the problem with any addiction is the thought process and the behavior…an alcoholic denied of their alcohol will soon find something else to replace and continue the behavior of escape….
the best thing to do is for him to see his doctor right away and allow the doctor to reassess him and make adjustments.
