I Need Some Major Knowledge Regarding Statutory Rape and Relationships.?

Question by J.A.G.GERNAUT: I need some major knowledge regarding statutory rape and relationships.?
Here’s the situation; I recently met a young girl who is 13 years old. After careful consideration, I came to realize that I want to date this girl. While she may be 13 and I am 17, do the laws still apply in my situation? Another factor is her past life of drug abuse and rebellion against her parental figures; in other words, she is someone who knows how sex, drugs and everything else goes. What can I do because as far as I know, the age of consent varies from 14-18 years of age. I live in Phoenix, Arizona. Answers will be greatly appreciated, thanks!

You will want to carefully think about this relationship. You can be charged with statutory rape because, regardless of what she’s done in her past, she is still considered a minor and you are an adult. Anything you do with her could be considered cohesion. Technically, her parents/guardian could press the issue that you talked her into…… A 17 year old boy shouldn’t be dating a 13 year old girl, the maturity level is different. She may be street smart but she is a child. She may not have even gotten her period yet, is still developing mentally and physically. It doesn’t matter what you think she knows about sex and drugs, she is considered a little girl and you are an adult. If you got charged, you would be a sex offender and when you went to jail, you would literally be on the receiving end. Wait til she is a lot older and grows up. For now, it’s not worth it.
